The thing is, it doesn’t seem to want to be something else, either. Though overtly reminiscent of such unrepentantly trashy fare as Death Wish and Ferrera’s Ms .45, The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster, doesn’t seem to want to be a trashy film. Is it an exemplar of the genre, or a self-conscious deconstruction? It all depends on whether the snowman is smiling because he’s smiling, or because he knows snowmen are supposed to smile.
It does exactly what such movies do, and then it does it some more, and then it stops. It almost leads you to expect a twist, and then the twist is that there is no twist. The violence in Jordan’s film, like the violence (and sex) in Cronenberg’s, may shock or startle, but the plot seems rigorously calculated never to surprise. Worth watching at least once.What Neil Jordan’s The Brave One shares with the other films mentioned above is a rigid adherence to convention more conventional than all but the most mechanical instances of its genre. A good film that will appeal to anyone looking for a decent action film. However it leaves a lot to be desired, despite this, this is a film still worth watching. Overall I liked this film, and it had some good action bits and was a fun, mindless entertaining film. The Brave One is simply good, flawed entertainment. Of course it's no masterpiece, but it still is very entertaining and thrilling with enough action to deliver a mindless, fun two hours. I enjoyed this film, and thought it was really good albeit the dreadful reviews it has received. The story is engaging, thrilling and better than what most people would think. This is not Jodie Foster's best film, but for what it is, it still is pretty entertaining. The film is pretty good overall, and though it isn't a great film, the film manages to entertaining enough for you to enjoy a good two hours.
I thought for the most part, Jodie Foster gave a good performance here. The film is good enough for a mindless viewing experience, but it's not the type of film that you'd want to rewatch again and again. The film is for me, anyways, mindless entertainment. I thought that the film was pretty entertaining despite the fact that the ideas in the plot have been done countless times before in other films. The Brave One is an average action film with a decent cast of actors.
